New blood for the ITI Academy Editorial Board

ITI Academy Editorial Board

Editing, managing and updating ITI Academy material is pretty much a full-time job that is carried out by dedicated ITI Fellows. The ITI Academy Editorial Board has been slowly reducing as members have moved on to different functions within the ITI. At the same time as our effective workforce has been shrinking, the Academy has been growing. We have reached our initial goals and the ITI Academy now needs to evolve to meet new needs and challenges. We needed new members for the Editorial Board, with new ideas about how we can progress.

To fill our vacant Senior Editor positions we tried something a little different. We asked for volunteers from the ranks of ITI Fellows. In retrospect, we probably should not have been surprised by the response. Nearly 40 Fellows expressed interest in taking on one of these jobs and the quality of the applicants was excellent, which made the final choice extremely difficult. Applications were ranked using selection criteria that had been previously provided to candidates, and then a consensus approach was used to select our new Senior Editors.

So, our new ITI Academy Board members are:

Professor Asbjørn JokstadAsbjørn is the Professor of Prosthodontics at UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø, Norway. He has had a long and distinguished career in academic dentistry, has published widely, and served on the editorial boards of over 20 journals. Asbjørn’s educational and editorial experience will be of great value to the ITI Academy.

Dr Anthony Dickinson. Anthony is in private specialist practice as a prosthodontist in Melbourne, Australia. He is dedicated to professional education in dentistry as a visiting educator at the University of Melbourne and is a much sought-after CME speaker in Australia and internationally. As a former Australasian Section Chairman and ITI Board member, Anthony has more than 20 years’ experience in the ITI.

Professor Özgür Erdogan. Özgür is the Head of the Department of Clinical Sciences and Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Okan University in Istanbul, Turkey. He is a former ITI Scholar, an active researcher, and has published widely. Finally, Özgür has been a reviewer and editor for the ITI Academy and authored the Academy Learning Module on “Complications of Sinus Floor Elevation Procedures”.

Associate Professor Miroslav Andric. Miroslav is the Associate Professor of Oral Surgery, Anesthesiology and Implantology at the University of Belgrade in Serbia. Another active researcher and teacher, Miroslav is also the Director of an ITI Study Club in Belgrade and has been a valuable reviewer and editor for the Academy.

A big welcome to our new Senior Editors. They will work with the Editor-in-Chief, Tony Dawson, to continue the development of the ITI Academy – the leading online educational resource in implant dentistry.
