The ITI community in Ukraine becomes 32nd ITI Section

ITI community in Ukraine

The ITI as an organization is devastated by the catastrophic events taking place within Ukraine and the suffering its people are currently experiencing.

The ITI community in Ukraine has made impressive progress, growing rapidly in recent years, and was poised to apply for ITI Section status. The final requirement would have been fulfilled with the second ITI Congress Ukraine planned to take place in Kyiv in September 2022.

In view of the current situation and the unavoidable deferment of the 2022 congress, the ITI Board of Directors has decided to award them the Section status they rightly deserve with immediate effect.

With the significant uncertainty and difficulties faced by Ukrainian Fellows and Members at this time, payment of their ITI membership fees will be suspended until at least the end of 2023. The ITI contribution originally budgeted for the deferred 2022 congress will be redirected to assist in re-establishing the dental infrastructure in Ukraine.

Neighboring ITI Sections are demonstrating their solidarity and support towards their Ukrainian colleagues by deferring planned events and through active humanitarian efforts on the ground.

The ITI will also explore how the dental and maxillofacial expertise of its global community might assist treatment and rehabilitation of victims of the current conflict. Further information will follow.

The ITI extends its deeply felt compassion to all those affected by this humanitarian tragedy.

State of the art on implant placement and loading protocols in partially edentulous patients

Implant placement and loading are two parts of the same clinical strategy, not separate choices. The 2026 systematic review from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine team updates the Gallucci framework with a far larger evidence base, clarifying which accelerated protocols—such as Type 1A (immediate placement + immediate loading)—are now well validated and where options like Type 1B still carry higher risk. It also confirms late placement protocols as the most consistently predictable pathways, while showing how early placement can balance biological safety with shorter treatment times.

525,600 minutes — how do you measure a year in a life?

For Dr. Milda Vitosyte, her ITI Scholarship year at Queen Mary University of London and Barts wasn’t about counting clinic hours — it was about moments that changed how she thinks and works.
