Meet the ITI AI Concierge: Get answers you can trust!

Martin Tereh

The ITI is proud to introduce the ITI AI Concierge to all ITI Fellows today and to all ITI Members in Q4 of 2026! Based exclusively on curated ITI sources like Treatment Guides, Consensus Statements, Forum Implantologicum and the Academy, every response is backed by citations you can directly review.

It’s 11pm. You’re finishing a presentation for your upcoming Study Club meeting and need to double-check a claim about immediate loading protocols. You’re chairside and a patient asks a question you know the answer to in principle but want the exact ITI position on. Or you’re three tabs deep into Treatment Guides, hunting for a specific paragraph you remember reading some months ago.

Every ITI Fellow knows these moments. For 45 years, the ITI has built one of the most respected bodies of evidence-based knowledge in implant dentistry: Treatment Guides, Consensus Statements, Forum Implantologicum, the Academy, decades of peer-reviewed research. The knowledge has always been there. Finding the right piece of it at the right moment hasn’t always been easy.

That’s changing now. Meet the ITI AI Concierge, an assistant that lets you have a conversation with ITI’s knowledge base, that lets you ask a clinical question in plain language and get a clear, sourced answer, built entirely from ITI resources, in seconds.

Why we built this

The way we look for information has changed dramatically over the last years. We don’t browse ten different websites anymore. We ask a question and expect a direct answer. That shift in habit hasn’t skipped implant dentistry or the ITI. Professionals want to get useful and reliable answers quickly on the fly.

The problem is that general AI chatbots weren’t built for this. They’re trained on the whole internet, which means they can sound confident while still being completely wrong. For answers to clinical questions, “probably right” isn’t good enough.

So we built something different: an AI assistant that only knows what the ITI knows. Nothing invented, nothing borrowed from the internet, just the ITI’s own evidence, made instantly accessible.

What it actually does

Using the Concierge is simple and not different from using Claude, ChatGPT, or other chatbots: type a question, and within seconds you get a clear answer and suggested follow-up questions. What sets us apart are the citations pointing back to the very pages within each ITI source from which information was retrieved. These can be Treatment Guides, a White Paper, Consensus Statements, a Forum Implantologicum article or Academy content. You can always check the source yourself or use it as a springboard for deeper reading.

A few things make it genuinely useful in day-to-day practice:

  • Speed. No more digging through PDFs or remembering which piece of content covers which topic. Ask, and get an answer in seconds.
  • Traceability. Every answer comes with a citation. You’re never just taking the AI’s word for it — you can always see exactly where it came from.
  • Scope discipline. The Concierge stays in its lane. It’s an educational resource, not a diagnostic or treatment-decision system, and it’s designed to say “I don’t know” rather than invent an answer when something falls outside ITI’s evidence base.
  • Multilingual by nature. Ask in your own language and get a fluent, accurate answer back — the underlying evidence stays exactly as rigorous.
  • Beyond clinical. It’s not a support desk, but the Concierge also knows the ITI itself. Ask about membership, congresses, or programs, and it can point you toward the right course, event, or offering.

For the tech-curious: This is what’s called a RAG system: Retrieval-Augmented Generation. Instead of an AI model answering from its general training, it first retrieves the most relevant passages from ITI’s curated document library, then uses those passages, and only those, to write the answer. If the Concierge doesn’t have a source for something, it will tell you so rather than guessing.

What Fellows are already saying

Before this went anywhere near a broader launch, we put the Concierge in front of leadership teams and ITI contributors, testing it against real questions from real professionals from all over the world. Their feedback shaped nearly every decision that followed. Here’s a flavor of what came back.

On saving time:

“It significantly reduced the time needed to search through multiple resources and made information easily accessible when needed.”

“Makes it easy to navigate through ITI content without spending so much time on the website trying to find something specific.”

“Summarized specific questions in short and manageable answers without having to spend lots of time looking up papers and guidelines and reviewing them.”

On trust:

“It gave trustable answers about the ITI information.”

“Trust the answers and gain of time.”

“Good sources and trusted information.”

At the chairside and in the lecture hall:

“Gives me instant support for clinical questions at the dental chairside.”

“Gives a brief guide for lecture preparations.”

“A quick check of ITI evidence for me to prepare lectures.”

On language and reach:

“Language richness is very important, it works well – Turkish, for example. The answers are detailed and the relevant links work very well.”

And, our favorite:

“A great helper, a virtual friend in ITI.”

We also heard constructive feedback, including a request to eventually widen the search beyond ITI’s own library, to sources like PubMed. That’s a genuine roadmap conversation, and one we’re having carefully: Our top priority is to deliver safe and beneficial answers reflecting the ITI’s vetted evidence. Any expansion will need to deliver on that priority and not trade it away for breadth.

Built the ITI way: precision over shortcuts

If you know the ITI, none of this will surprise you: we didn’t rush this. The Concierge went through a proof of concept, a closely tested MVP including many user interviews, and real-world trials with practitioners across all continents before it reached this Fellows-first release. Every step was measured against one question: can we trust the responses we receive? Only when the answer was consistently yes did we move forward.

That same discipline is why the Concierge is scoped narrowly on purpose. It answers questions grounded in ITI’s published, peer-reviewed knowledge. It does not diagnose, does not recommend products or a treatment plan for a specific patient, and won’t pretend to know something it doesn’t. And that’s not a limitation; it’s the whole point! Trust was the design brief from day one.

For the tech-curious: The system runs on Microsoft Azure, inside the ITI’s own environment, so member data, queries and ITI content never leaves the ITI’s infrastructure. The retrieval engine was benchmarked against a more complex graph-based alternative (LightRAG) before the team settled on a leaner, faster approach. Proof that the best engineering choice isn’t always the most complicated one. It currently draws on 170 ingested ITI documents, with more added as the knowledge base grows.

Why Fellows first

ITI Fellows enjoy free full access during this first rollout to a wider audience. They are the ones who write, peer-review, and refine the content the Concierge is built on. Now they are the first big group to put it to work and test it in every-day professional situations to further maximize its safety through their feedback. They also stress-test the technical infrastructure and help shape how the Concierge develops before it reaches the full ITI community. Members will get access in Q4 of 2026!

What’s next

This release is a first step, and many more will follow. Future development includes expansion of the knowledge base, deeper integration with ITI’s platforms and possibly the SAC Assessment Tool, choice of modes, and, further down the line, carefully scoped work on imaging and case data, once the evidence and regulatory groundwork are solid.

For now, we hope the ITI AI Concierge earns a place in your daily routine, not as a replacement for clinical judgment, but as a fast, trustworthy way to reach the knowledge that’s always been the foundation of ITI.

Every year in June, the ITI opens the application portal for its Scholarships. We took this opportunity to ask one of our former Scholars, Ethan Ng from Singapore, about his experience, his daily work and what he liked the most about it. He started his Scholarship year in 2024 at the ITI Scholarship Center Queen Mary University of London, Centre for Oral Clinical Research, UK.
