The ITI Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2022 was held in Rome on April 2, and it was the first on-site AGM since 2019 in Berlin.
At the AGM, ITI President Charlotte Stilwell made several important announcements: Three new ITI Sections were established in Thailand, Vietnam and Ukraine, and Lisa Heitz-Mayfield and Frauke Müller were awarded an ITI Honorary Fellowship. Anthony Dawson and Steven Eckert received an ITI Distinguished Achievement Award, a newly established award in recognition of a significant contribution to a specific milestone topic in implant dentistry. The André Schroeder Research Prizes 2022 went to Ryan Lee and to Stefan Bienz.
The ITI Annual Conference was held before the AGM and, with 1005 participants, was a great success. An excellent panel of speakers discussed “Peri-implant soft-tissue integration and management”, the topic of the ITI Treatment Guide Volume 12.
The ITI Section Italy had its congress a couple of days before the AGM and ITI Annual Conference on March 31 and April 1. This event was also very successful with 885 participants. The congress theme was “Esthetics in implant dentistry: clinical and scientific evidence” with great Italian and international speakers.
The joint event between the International Young ITI and the Italian Young ITI task force was remarkable. A beautiful program with speakers from both groups, it attracted approximately 230 participants. This was the first in-presence event for the International Young ITI that was founded in Berlin in 2019 and set a high standard for the upcoming events.
A very nice social program took place: a wonderful welcome dinner at Palazzo Brancaccio on Thursday evening, the Straumann party on Friday night and the exceptional opportunity to have a private visit to the Vatican Museums. The ITI Fellows and Members who took part were really enthusiastic about this experience as they were able to admire masterpieces by fantastic world-renowned artists, among them the Vatican Rooms by Raffaello Sanzio and the incredible paintings in the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo.
On top of all this, the greatest achievement for the ITI Fellows and Members was the possibility to learn, to discuss, to laugh and to party together after such a long time. It was a great feeling to meet the ITI family in person again!
The next AGM will take place in May 2023 in Lisbon… we all hope it will be another beautiful in-presence event.
