On-site in Belgrade for a great ITI Education Week

After one year of preparation, Belgrade had the privilege to organize and host the second ITI Education week from October 2-6, 2023. The whole team in Belgrade is honored to stand alongside some of the biggest universities and dental schools in the world. We are proud to be a part of the ITI family, sharing the same vision for the future of implant dentistry.

This year’s edition brought together well-known and renowned names from the field of implant dentistry, oral surgery, periodontology, and prosthodontics under the leadership of Professor Dr. Aleksa Marković, Dean of the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Belgrade, course director and chair of the ITI Scholarship Center in Belgrade.

We had the privilege of hosting ITI President, Dr. Charlotte Stilwell, as our guest lecturer. Dr. Stilwell delivered an inspiring welcome speech and a captivating lecture. Dr. Stilwell’s lecture provided valuable insights and practical knowledge that will undoubtedly benefit those who attended.

She was followed by three distinguished guest lecturers, Professor Dr. Shakeel Shahdad and Professor Dr. Irena Sailer, accompanied by Dr. Duygu Karasan. They all delivered insightful lectures on the topic of restorative implant dentistry and were very keen to share their experience and discuss various topics with the participants.

The whole team took part in the hands-on workshops that were organized during this five-day course. Hands-on workshops included digital treatment planning and designing surgical templates as well as designing implant restorations.

Our participants enjoyed a comprehensive learning experience on digital implant planning workflows and were able to improve their skills and proficiency thanks to the guidance provided by our esteemed colleague, Dr. Shahdad.

On the fourth day, our understanding expanded with the addition of our good friend and respected guest Professor Dr. Ali Tahmaseb, who provided valuable insights during a lecture on “Immediate Implant Placement: Guided vs. Nonguided Surgery”. Professor Tahmaseb engaged participants effectively, paving the way for an excellent workshop centered around immediate implant placement in the esthetic zone.

Over the course of five days, participants had the opportunity to enhance their expertise in advanced implant dentistry. The program seamlessly integrated extensive clinical experience, offering insights into managing and resolving diverse complex clinical cases. Topics covered included implant placement in the esthetic zone, simultaneous immediate implant placement with guided bone regeneration (GBR) procedures, full arch rehabilitation, and a comprehensive exploration of every step of prosthetic restoration. The curriculum adeptly incorporated both digital and analog workflows, providing a well-rounded learning experience.

Besides extensive discussion about complex clinical cases and lectures, the course also included a thorough literature review and update, as well as live surgical and restorative procedures. Throughout these live sessions, hosted in the newly built, fully equipped, and technologically connected facilities of the Implant Center Belgrade, participants had the unique advantage of engaging in real-time discussions with our professors. The interactive format allowed for questions and discussions as procedures developed, facilitated by moderators who skillfully guided and coordinated participant queries to the operating team.

Participants were very excited to participate in five hands-on workshops on models on the topics of full arch rehabilitation and immediate loading with digital impression technique, immediate implant placement in the esthetic zone, sinus lift procedures and bone block grafts, digital treatment planning and designing of surgical templates, digital design of implant restorations, as well as impression techniques in both the analog and digital workflow.

Participants benefit from these workshops by being able to incorporate newly acquired knowledge and techniques under the guidance of professors and lecturers. Along with the rest of the world experiencing the digital revolution, our participants had the opportunity to practice and experience digital impression techniques using three different intraoral scanners and engage themselves in fully digital planning.

The purpose of these educational modules is for participants to acquire maximum knowledge while lecturers share their knowledge extensively. Additionally, these gatherings serve as valuable opportunities for colleagues to socialize and exchange experiences, knowledge, and ideas.

Team Belgrade organized a welcome cocktail party at the end of the first day, held at the Student’s Club of the School of Dental Medicine, University of Belgrade. This provided participants, who had just arrived and hadn’t yet explored the city, with a chance to socialize, get to know each other and our team. We had the pleasure of hosting participants from all over the world, including Poland, Greece, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Lebanon and Australia.

Our course schedule left only limited time for participants to explore Belgrade, so we provided a glimpse of our vibrant city by organizing a dinner at a prominent restaurant in Karadjordjeva Street, Savamala. Situated next to Belgrade Pier on the Sava riverfront, this location is a must-visit hotspot and the epicenter of Belgrade’s nightlife. Considering Belgrade’s unique position on the banks of two large rivers, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to showcase the beautiful river promenades during this event. While traveling from the faculty to the restaurant, we crossed the entire city center, passing by Republic Square with the National Museum and National Theatre. We also caught a glimpse of the Temple of Saint Sava, the world’s second-largest Orthodox church.

As the fifth day drew to a close, a hint of fatigue began to surface. However, the enthusiasm that had been present since day one persisted among all the attendees as well as the team.

We received enthusiastic feedback from Dr Vuk Paripovic in Australia who is eager to share his experience:

“ITI Education Week in Belgrade is an excellent choice for clinicians looking to advance their implantology skills & repertoire and undertake more complex cases. The team of high caliber speakers and professors clearly explain and demonstrate techniques and cases, and the clinical reasoning behind successful outcomes. Additionally, there was an excellent supervisor-to-attendee ratio, with the ITI Belgrade team going above and beyond to ensure questions were fully answered and concepts well understood. I cannot imagine a more hospitable team and can strongly recommend that clinicians wishing to advance or refresh their management of complex implant cases attend ITI Education Week Belgrade. Thank you to Prof. Markovic and the associate professors for a fantastic course.”

With that same enthusiasm, we would like to invite all of you to be part of our ITI Education Weeks.

Greetings from Belgrade.
